The BC39 JR Sprint race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway was full of lessons, grit, and some humbling moments. This was only Giselle’s third time in the Junior Sprint, going up against some of the best young drivers in the country — and only Michael’s third time working on the car. A learning to learn kind of week… which mom expected 😅 but Michael and Giselle show up to win every time.
Night 1 threw us a literal curveball — or bump. The track was rough and unpredictable. During qualifying, the bumps caught Giselle off guard, putting her 12th overall. She started 4th in her heat, made her way to 3rd, then hit a bump that sent her into the wall. Somehow saved it and held on for 4th. That lined her up 12th for the Feature, where she dodged some wrecks and drove it up to 6th! There were some intense emotions before the feature. She pushed through, figured out how to wheel it around the track and came off smiling ear to ear.
Night 2 was a struggle. The track was smoother, but the car just wasn’t right. Qualified last in her group, started last in the heat, and couldn’t gain ground. Same story in the main — tried everything, but finished 13th.
Michael will lose lots more sleep this week, figure out the problems and be better next race. Overall, a really cool experience racing at one of the most iconic places in motorsports.
